American AgCredit finances all segments of agriculture. We offer targeted loan programs and other specialized financing options to support the next generation of agriculture.

Created to serve the credit needs of young, beginning, and small producers, our YBS program provides alternate financing and guarantee options for farmers and ranchers who may not qualify under our normal lending requirements.

The program also includes governmental guarantee programs such as Farmer Mac and FSA loan guarantees.

Who is Eligible?

Producers who have one or more of the following characteristics may qualify for this program:

YOUNG: Age 35 or younger
BEGINNING: 10 years or fewer experience in farming/ranching
SMALL: Under $350,000 annual gross income from farming operations

BEYOND OUR YBS PROGRAM

In addition to our Young, Beginning and Small loan program, we have several other programs dedicated to serving the needs of alternative or niche farming operations. Additionally, we have several programs specifically targeting the next generation of agriculture that fall outside of our core business of lending to farmers.

Shortened Supply Chain Producers

Closely related to the YBS program, we have targeted lending solutions for producers who sell their products through a shortened supply chain. Farm-to-table and direct to consumer producers, Community Supported Agriculture (CSA), and other local food farmers all may be eligible for loans from American AgCredit.

Qualifications

Typical characteristics of eligible operations are as follows:

  • Producers selling at least 20% of their products direct to consumers
  • Producers farming approximately 5 to 80 acres
  • Niche operations producing a specialty crop or livestock

Other Criteria

Producers must be identified as a bona fide farmer or rancher, a processing or marketing operation “directly related” to the operations of a bona fide farmer (provided some portion of throughput is provided by the farmer), or a business furnishing farm-related services

Loan amounts are typically limited to $1 million.

AGYOUTH PROGRAM

American AgCredit’s AgYouth Program is part of the Association’s commitment to Young, Beginning and Small Farmers, targeting school-aged students who have exhibited an interest in agriculture by joining 4-H Clubs and Future Farmers of America (FFA) Chapters.
